Site Update for September 2016
It has been a while since I gave an update as to what has been going on so I decided to write this post to try and clear some things up. I will explain what is taking so long with some reviews that should have been done months ago, changes to the site and some format changes to posts.
You may have noticed some changes to post titles recently such as the replacement of “Review:” with adding review at the end of the title and moving the the review’s subtitle in the post name. I have done this to make the site more in line with formats that I have come to prefer over the last few months. I personally find that it gives more information at a glance than the format used before and it looks nicer when scrolling through. I am aware however that some post titles have become quite long as a result and may look out of place on mobile devices. This doesn’t seem to be much of an issue however as most of the site traffic comes from desktop browsers.
Some major changes to the comments section of the site have been made recently as well. I have replaced the default WordPress comments system with Disqus to cut down on spam and make management of comments easier. Old comments have had to be converted to the new format which means that user Gravatars are no longer supported. To differentiate between older comments and comments made after the implementation of Disqus check the date. If the comment was made before 17th September 2016 it was imported. Guest commenting through Disqus will be enabled as I believe that no one should have to make an account anywhere to speak freely. I have also added a custom avatar for guest comments, any comment made using the below image as their avatar is a guest comment or has been imported from the old system.
Now that the site changes are out of the way it is time to explain the absence of reviews and other posts that should have been published more often than they have been. The honest truth is that I have found myself getting bored with a lot of games before I finish them. As a result I have found myself in a position where I am unable to express a fully informed and genuine opinion on these games. Alongside boredom with games I have also noticed that the games that I intended to do reviews of are incredibly long. I am currently playing through The Witcher 3 with the intent to review it when I am done but this game is massive and I have no wish to rush through it as it is the most polished game I have played in years and I don’t want to ruin the experience. I also intend to review Pillars of Eternity as well however that is another long game that I don’t wish to rush through for the sake of finishing it faster.
Recently I decided to sit down with the Fallout 4 GECK and make some changes to the game that fix some minor issues I had with the game and to make certain elements of the game more convenient. I have published one of these mods so far and have a link to them on the sidebar for those interested. I have also listed some mods for Skyrim that I plan on releasing / developing once the Special Edition launches.
As a compromise I plan on reviewing some shorter games in the meantime. This will ensure a more steady flow of content for the site but will also ensure I don’t burn myself out on larger games so I can give a more honest opinion of them when it comes time to review them.
You may be wondering why the post header image is a screenshot of my World of Warcraft character wielding their artifact weapon. World of Warcraft’s Legion expansion recently launched and I have been having a lot of fun with it, I don’t plan on reviewing the expansion, but I thought it may be worth mentioning that I have started playing a game well-known for being a massive time sync. This shouldn’t affect anything to do with the site other than maybe distracting me from writing occasionally.
I hope that I have explained everything thoroughly and I plan to have more reviews out as soon as possible. Thank you for reading.
