Game Sale Roundup: Black Friday 2016

Sale Round up

It’s deal day weekend and the name suggests there are a lot of deals and discounts available on video games this weekend and I have a few recommendations for games that are worth picking up. These are my top ten games to pick up during this sale.

Civilization V Complete: £8.06 / 92% off
This turn based strategy series offers several games to spend hundreds of hours playing. Depending on your budget there will be an option for everyone in this franchise sale. There is no story or other reason to buy into the series at an earlier stage, each game can be played independently of the rest of the series. The Civilization V: Complete Bundle offers the base game and it’s two (necessary) expansions. The price of this bundle will decrease depending on if you own anything included already making it a great way to upgrade your Civilization V game to the full experience.

Deus Ex: Human Revolution – Director’s Cut: £3.24 / 75% off
Human Revolution is a stealth game set in the world of Deus Ex. You play as Adam Jensen, an ex-SWAT cyborg security agent for Sarif Industries. Sneak your way around cities and corporate headquarters to uncover the truth. A great stealth game with high quality writing and dialogue. Play whatever way you want to as the game supports all approaches to any situation.

Grand Theft Auto Franchise: 50% – 70% off
The Grand Theft Auto series shouldn’t need much of an explanation. Each game is a third person open world crime fest with a Singleplayer story taht allows the player to progress and unlock new items, weapons and customisations. The 3d era GTA games are GTA III, GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas. These games have aged quite well considering and some have recently received patches to support gamepads. The HD era GTA games are GTA IV Complete Edition and GTA V. These games offer a more authentic representation of crime, violence and to some extent physics.]

Available on Steam. Grand Theft Auto Collection £10.49. GTA V is available for £20.

Fallout: New Vegas Ultimate Edition: £7.49 / 50 off
The pinnacle of the Fallout series and my favourite game. Fallout: New Vegas is the RPG that all RPGs should aspire to be. Set in the post apocalyptic city of New Vegas and the surrounding Mohave desert. You have been shot in the head and left for dead, you have a name and a direction and it’s time to get even. There are many ways to play and how you choose to play is always valid, there is no wrong way to play. The DLC offerings including in this edition will give you further insight into the world of Fallout. There is also a large modding community for this game offering many new additions to the game from armour and weapons to quests and conversions.

The Elder Scrolls Franchise: 50% – 72% off
Bethesda has a pedigree in open world 3D RPGs. If you haven’t played any game in the series then The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim and it’s add ons are a great starting point. It is worth noting that the Special Edition (remaster) of Skyrim was recently released and is not available at a discount in this sale. Oblivion and Morrowind are also great games but the further back into the series you go the more hardcore the game design becomes and the less accessible to new players they are. Each game allows the player to do as they please in the game world the moment they finish the character creator and any tutorials. You have total freedom to do as you wish from that point forward and can spend hundreds of hours doing other content before you even begin the main quests.

Deals available at Steam. Skyrim, Oblivion GOTY Deluxe, Morrowind.

The Elder Scrolls Online: Tamriel Unlimited £6.59 / 67% off
Since this title isn’t considered part of the main franchise I thought it would be worth mentioning separately. This is an MMO and as such require an internet connection at all times to play. This is a MMO set in the Elder Scrolls universe. It uses the buy once business model but offers a subscription and content packs for sale. The gameplay is similar to that of the games in the main series but has been changed to suit it’s design as an MMO. With the recent updates and the seemingly growing community due to recent sales this is a great title to pick up and play in your spare time. If you have friend or a guild to play with a lot more fun can be had with cooperative content such as dungeons and world bosses. The additional content of the Gold Edition is not needed for new players and can be purchased as an upgrade pack for the difference in price with the game’s premium currency which occasionally goes on sale.

The Witcher 3: The Wild Hunt – Game of the Year Edition: £20.99 / 40% off
The Witcher 3 is CD Projekt Red’s 2015 RPG masterpiece. Play as legendary monster hunter Geralt of Rivia on his quest to find his ward and save the world. The game features bloody brutal combat and has an emphasis on preparation and skill. With a huge open world to explore filled with quests, monsters and eager card game fans. The Game of the Year edition also includes the game’s two expansion packs, Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine.

Tomb Raider: £3.74 / 75% off
Tomb Raider is a reboot of the classic series of the same name. The game is an action packed adventure on a tropical island featuring great gunplay and level design. The game is also a well optimised graphical powerhouse that looks gorgeous. The game of the year edition is also on offer however there is no need to purchase it as most of the DLC is multiplayer maps and weapons and the multiplayer for this game is dead. For £3.74 it is a fantastic buy for a Singleplayer adventure.

Deal available at Steam and Origin.

Valve Complete Pack: £18.43 / 88% off
This bundle contains every Valve game released. Including the fantastic Half-Life series and the co-op zombie genocide shooter Left 4 Dead 2. Wolfenstein: The New Order: £4,94 / 67% off
Feel like killing Nazis and blowing shit up? The New Order is Machine Games’s first person solution to your need to crush Nazi skull’s beneath the boots of freedom. Dual wielding pretty much any weapon in the game makes this task a hell of a lot more fun too. Great level design, aesthetic and boss fights.
